Atlantik-Brücke Honors U.S. Secretary of State Rice with Warburg Award in Berlin
Eric M. Warburg as a person is the bridge over the Atlantic.” These are the words former German Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker chose on the occasion of the first Eric M. Warburg Award ceremony in 1988 to honor the historical engagement of this great German-American, who worked to create a democratic Germany based on close German-American friendship. The award honors personalities in Germany and the United States who contributed to securing and fostering Germanys place in the Atlantic Alliance in the spirit of Eric M. Warburg. Warburg himself was the first recipient of the award.

Further laureates were Paul H. Nitze, who served different American governments in high posts, Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Manfred Wörner, former Secretary-General of NATO and former German Chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl. Furthermore, Dr. Otto Graf Lambsdorff was honored for his mediating role in the negotiations concerning forced labor under fascism, and former General Klaus Naumann is an award recipient who distinguished himself by his merits as Chairman of the military board of NATO during the Balkan crises. On April 17, 2002 former U.S. President George H.W. Bush was awarded the prize on the occasion of the 50th birthday of Atlantik-Brücke. |
