Every citizen, particularly in democracies, is becoming a target of foreign espionage, surveillance, and concerted disinformation campaigns. Democracies are particularly vulnerable to these operations as they rely on both freedom of information and their citizens’ trust. AI is fundamentally altering the way disinformation is spread, and increasing the risks associated with Chinese control over platforms like TikTok.
