As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its founding, this walking tour offers an opportunity to explore the often-overlooked London chapter of Benjamin Franklin’s life. Franklin spent sixteen years in the British capital as a representative of the American colonies, working at the heart of political life in Westminster during a period that would ultimately shape the future relationship between Britain and America.
Led by a historian from Benjamin Franklin House, the tour traces Franklin’s movements through Westminster and highlights the places where he lived, worked, and engaged with some of the most influential figures of the eighteenth century. Along the route, participants will discover lesser-known stories of America’s early presence in London while passing many of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliament.
