The Atlantik-Brücke Study Trips for Teachers is one of our most traditional programs. For over 30 years, study trips to Germany have been organized for US social studies and history teachers. In 2016, the program was expanded and, for the first time, a trip to the US was undertaken with teachers from states of the former GDR. During the week-long study trip, teachers get to know the destination country in all its diversity firsthand. The focus is on learning about the education system and actively exchanging ideas with fellow teachers and students on the other side of the Atlantic. Meetings with personalities from politics, business, and the media give participants deep insights into the host country. Visits to historical and cultural sights round off the diverse program.
We are convinced that transatlantic relations thrive not only on high-level cooperation in politics and business, but also to a large extent on a cultural and emotional bond between societies as a whole. Our teacher trips make an important contribution to promoting this exchange in schools. Our participants enthusiastically share the experiences they have gained during the trip with their students, thereby promoting the interest of children and young people in each other’s countries. Networking with fellow teachers on the other side of the Atlantic also promotes the development of exchange programs and other collaborations between schools.
With our digital events and the opportunity to participate in network meetings, we also enable program alumni to engage in transatlantic relations on a long-term basis.
