Germany and Europe stand at a critical juncture in the global competition for innovation and technological leadership. Against the backdrop of increasing dependencies on China and other strategic rivals in key technologies, research and development, and advanced manufacturing, this strategy session will explore where Europe can strengthen its economic and technological position – from pharmaceuticals to electronics and beyond.

Building on this assessment, the strategy session will move beyond current challenges, and focus on how Germany and Europe can reinforce their economic and technological foundations amid intensifying geopolitical competition. It will explore forward-looking policy approaches to strengthen resilience and examine why an expanding range of capabilities and industries should increasingly be understood as integral components of critical infrastructure.

We are pleased to announce our expert panel:

  • Prof. Dr. Lisandra Flach, Director, Center for International Economics, ifo Insitute
  • State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt, MdL (Freie Wähler),Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy
  • Christian Mattern, Member of the Leadership Team, Gilead Sciences GmbH
  • Marc P. Philipp, Partner & Managing Director, Healthcare & Life Science, Kearney
  • Carsten Schiewe, Partner, Defence & Space, Co-Lead Geopolitics & Defence Competence Center, KPMG
  • Alexander Mühlauer, Head of Economics Department, Süddeutsche Zeitung (Moderator)

Finally, together with our expert speakers, the strategy session will address how transatlantic cooperation, despite challenging circumstances, can help Europe reduce strategic dependencies while strengthening its long-term competitiveness, resilience, and sovereignty.

We would like to thank our partners Gilead Sciences and MSD for the support.
